Our story

Hey there, I'm Eric Hong, founder of StoryPlate. Born in Canada to Vietnamese refugees with Chinese roots, my childhood was filled with flavors and aromas. I can still taste the fragrant phở simmering on the stove, savory dumplings made from scratch, and the crispy spring rolls fried to perfection. Simple ingredients were transformed into culinary masterpieces, each dish telling a story of heritage and home.

My culinary awakening came later in life, sparked by a trip to Italy where I discovered the true essence of authentic cuisine. Upon moving to Sweden in 2016, I found myself craving the flavors of my childhood, especially the comforting embrace of Asian home cooking. There's something magical about the flavors of a dish made from home, each bite a journey back to cherished memories.

In 2024, I found myself reflecting on the resilience of my family and the struggles of others in similar situations. Inspired by a chance encounter with a mother and daughter who were delivering food on a Saturday morning to make ends meet, I felt I wanted to help out.

And so, StoryPlate was born—a platform where home chefs and local food entrepreneurs can share their passion and connect with their community. It's not just about food; it's about sharing stories, preserving traditions, and empowering individuals to turn their love for food into a meaningful livelihood.
